Any tips for a beginner on learning classical guitar so I wont give up easily?

I keep giving up and the finger exercises are very frustrating because it%26#039;s repeating and doing the same thing over and over again..

are there any tips so I won%26#039;t give up and instead have fun doing it?

thanks
Any tips for a beginner on learning classical guitar so I wont give up easily?
Find inspiration, and once in a while take a break, dont constantly practice practice. and what i mean for inspiration like a goal. for instance mine is to play Dragon Force-through the fire and the flames. trust me its impossible for me but i try anyways. you can also practice with a friend even if they dont play the same instrument.

The guitar is a nice instrument. What I would suggest it to try and play music that you like in-between courses or get The Beatles songbook.

Classical gets boring but it doesn;t mean you have to stick to classic music. I play pop on my classical and in the studio , I use my electric.

That might be another option for you, get an electric guitar.

A question about my guitar amp?

Ok, I have a pretty decent practice amp. Its a fender 15 watts. However, I have trouble controlling it to get the sound I want. I can never get it just right because I dont understand the knobs and stuff. Aswell, if I want to play professionally do i need more than an amp such as a distorter? Can someone tell me about the different inputs for a setup
A question about my guitar amp?
The little Fender amp is ice. If you want a bassey sound, then , turn up the bass and if you need more highs, then turn up the treble and lower the bass.

If it has a mid tone button, that should be set in the middle.

A disotrion is a pedal used by mostly every guitarist. That is a nice add on as well as a Digital delay.
A question about my guitar amp?
Personally with a cheap practice amp it%26#039;s not worth any pedals in my opinion. for the price of your amp plus pedals you could get a decent little tube amp. It would add millions to your tone and sound.
Reply:First of all learn how to play without distortion. You would be amazed of how many musicians hide behind effects boxes to hide their lack of talent. To be famous you have to have the right look at the moment and slick production, to be a professional you have to know how to play. The greatest recognition does%26#039;nt

come from a audience, it comes from your peers.

Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, Dean, Shecter... Forgetting any others?

I%26#039;m looking to buy a serious metal guitar. I%26#039;ve already checked out Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, Dean, and Shecter, but I want to make sure I%26#039;m not missing any other great guitar companies... any other suggestions?
Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, Dean, Shecter... Forgetting any others?

Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, Dean, Shecter... Forgetting any others?
umm Paul Reed Smith is one of the most versatile guitars i own, i can play anything from blues, to metal, to classic rock on it just by changing the pickup selectors...
Reply:Gibson- Les Paul
Reply:Here is the scope.

Ibanez is a nice guitar. I own an old 1963 Gibson Les Paul. I recently purchased a Jackson to do more heavy metal tunes in the studio.

The 24 fret and active electronic of Jackson and the response blew me away. The neck has a low action and an instant response to finger-tapping.

ESP is nice as well as Dean. I also bought a Shecter 5 -string bass which also has active electronics. Sometimes, i need the bass for special runs. This bass is awesome. I can%26#039;t say anything about the guitar since I never tried one.

But if they are like the bass I tried, then I gather the guitar should be very nice.

My preference....sorry !!!! Jackson ....The floyd rose whammy bar and locked nut keepts this guitar in perfect pitch.

How do you hold a long note on a Saxophone?

I%26#039;m currently playing the Tenor Sax and I was wondering how I may be able to hold a really long note on my sax.

I know that there%26#039;s suppose to be some breathing thing to it but I sorta need details.

I%26#039;s just like to know how I can do it.
How do you hold a long note on a Saxophone?
Practice breathing exercises to strengthen your lungs and diaphragm- that will increase your ability over time.

To start, use your stomach muscles/diaphragm rather than your throat to support the air. Don%26#039;t tighten up your mouth too much because that will cut off the air, although if you%26#039;re too loose, then it will sound bad and airy. Take deep breaths and blow them out slowly without puffing out your cheecks.

It takes practice to get the right feel and develop the muscle memory.

Try playing scales and holding out each note for 20 seconds (or however long you%26#039;re ready for) and increase over time. That will improve your tone as well. Hope this helps. :)
How do you hold a long note on a Saxophone?
take a long BIG! breath BLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Reply:Pick a note that is fairly comfortable to play and hold it out as long as you possibly can. Take a breath and do it again. Keep this up for at least half an hour every day. You won%26#039;t see immediate results, because this is a skill that takes time. Just keep at it.

There is a technique for playing %26quot;never-ending%26quot; notes called circular breathing. Using this technique, you breathe in through your nose to get more air while you%26#039;re playing. This is a very advanced technique, but unless you%26#039;re playing professionally (and possibly even if you are) I doubt it would ever be necessary. If you really want to learn, though, I would suggest trying to find a clinic; this isn%26#039;t really the kind of thing you can learn from online instructions.

I would suggest that you stick to the old-fashioned method: practice, practice, practice.

Determining drum head size and rim size?

Ok. This may be dumb question, but how do you determine the what size head and rim will fit a particular drum? I want to buy them online so I don%26#039;t have a way of visually determining the sizes I need. I need to buy a bottom rim and head for my 10%26quot; tom. Does the size of the drum (width) correspond to the size head and rim I need? For example, a 10%26quot; tom would take a 10%26quot; head and rim?

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Low D "jumping" on tenor sax?

I%26#039;ve played Bari sax for four years and I%26#039;m being made to play tenor for marching band this year. I just got a Selmer TS500, and when I play low notes (specifically D and E) sometimes it will %26quot;jump%26quot; like it will sound as if I%26#039;m playing with another tenor and I%26#039;m horribly out of tune. Sometimes it will make constant waves, sometimes it will just do it a couple times, and sometimes it will make a solid tone. Tonguing seems to make it do it sometimes. The instrument is brand new, I%26#039;ve checked for leaks and cant find any. I can play Alto and Bari fine so I dont THINK it%26#039;s my embouchure but I could be wrong. Anyone ever had this before or have any idea whats wrong?
Low D %26quot;jumping%26quot; on tenor sax?
i%26#039;m not going to even pretend to know what i%26#039;m talking about but i have something of an idea. its the same way with me on french horn i just started playing it last year for band just like you. i%26#039;m a natural trumpet player but i got switched. what i found is that one one instrument the amount of air that use to work might not on another instrument. it takes so much more air on french horn that you wouldn%26#039;t believe. you have to mostly practice on finding that note thats in tune in your lower register and think about what you%26#039;re doing to hit it and keep it there and practice on what you did. that often works. mostly you have to keep the flow of air strong and steady so that you get a good controlled sound. on sax-any sax- its all about controll baby. there%26#039;s also the deal with you know...the instrument might be wrong ha ha. some times new things are broken
Low D %26quot;jumping%26quot; on tenor sax?
2 things;

1. air speed (control %26amp; support)

2. have a technician check it for leaks, most new saxes do not come perfectly adjusted.

I have a deep, low voice. how can i make it higher in pitch?

What are some good excercises that i can do to tighten/strengthen my vocal chords. I want to be able to sing emo music so i need a high sounding voice. Does anyone know any sites? specific youtube vids that could help me
I have a deep, low voice. how can i make it higher in pitch?
helo am jevin..a boy like you...u kow, perhaps u hvnt nt yet reach z level ov maturity wer ur voice changes into a man..i mean a real man..with a loud voice..high pitch..bt nevetheless......try t scream wen ur alone at home n tought ur voice is nt so good,,,,try t sing more n more...ule get it veri quik buddy
I have a deep, low voice. how can i make it higher in pitch?
You really can%26#039;t change it much. The pitch of your voice is determined by the thickness of your vocal cords and the speed at which they vibrate. That%26#039;s not something you can alter. the best way would be to find a voice coach who works with singers.

If i play electric guitar would i be able to teach myself how to play bass?

i have played a electric guitar for about 5 or 6 months now and i get lessons i am thinking about saving up to get a 4 string bass guitar and i want to know if it would be easy to teach myself because i don%26#039;t want to get lessons for a bass guitar and a electric and i want to teach myself how to play bass i know all of the chords and stuff like that also so do you think it would be easy to teach myself what are some of the best ways to teach myself like websites and stuff like that thank you
If i play electric guitar would i be able to teach myself how to play bass?
Guitar and bass are pretty much the same instrument. Same notes in the same places short of 2 strings. The main difference in terms of playing I think is the feel (longer neck, thicker strings). And developing your %26#039;pick%26#039; hand playing may require a different approach than guitar.

You probably won%26#039;t be using a lot of %26#039;chords%26#039; for much or all of the time, though I%26#039;ve always enjoyed playing them a lot myself. Takes more of a %26#039;reach%26#039; than guitar obviously, and my hands strain when I use them heavily, especially at the lower end.

Many guitarists can play bass with no problem at all. I wish it worked the same for me the other way around, but guitar strings are way smaller than I%26#039;m used to. It%26#039;s pretty much all power chords for me on guitar.
If i play electric guitar would i be able to teach myself how to play bass?
It shouldn%26#039;t be too hard, it depends what style of music you are learning, I swear everyone that teaches themselves slap bass ends up with a floppy thumb (kind of like Flea, it%26#039;s fine if you%26#039;re covering chili%26#039;s songs but have fun trying to double-thump like that)
Reply:Well, at least you have the fingering so that won%26#039;t be an issue. The difference is that you won%26#039;t have to worry about chording on a bass. You need good riff and be tight with the drummer.

Need help with buying first guitar?

hi i go to middle school and i am interested in buying my first guitar, nobody in my family play guitar so i need to know if i can have totally free lesson online (without paying a cent) .and i am not sure if i should buy a Acoustic Guitars or Electric Guitars but i kinda like electric (i am thinking about buying both mixed). i have never ever touched a guitar. i just thought i should learn a guitar over summer. i am not sure if i am going to play guitar for a long time or just some months or a year so i don%26#039;t want to spend a lot of money. i just want to spend less than $200. i don%26#039;t want to waist money in some junk so please give me some awesome advice on buying it thanks :%26quot;D
Need help with buying first guitar?
There are many selections you have out there from which to choose. The first question as you noted is the choice between electric and acoustical. Both are great and most guitar players have at least one of each. Depending upon the style of music you are interested in will tell which one you should buy. If your musical interest is popular, rock, metal or anything of that nature then an electric guitar is for you. Remember you will need an amplifier and Will make a lot of noise which at first will not be well received by others. Acoustical on the other hand is softer and more geared to a small audience. I would would recommend acoustical even though it will be harder to learn at first. Check out Epiphone, Ibanez, and Dean they make a series of guitar at or around the price level you mentioned. Good luck!
Need help with buying first guitar?
There are plenty of electric guitar (and acoustic guitar!) packs at places like Guitar Center.

I%26#039;m thinking that maybe electric might be better for you, because 1) they tend to be a little easier to play, so if you end up not being too dedicated you can still walk away being able to play a little bit of something something, and 2) amps usually have headphone jacks! =) Nothing like quiet practice to not piss off the fam, y%26#039;know? It%26#039;s hard to be quiet with an acoustic guitar even...

Squier is okay for cleaner stuff, but the Les Paul style guitars are going to be better for heavy/distortion stuff. The amp that comes with it will not be the highest quality, and you may end up wanting a distortion pedal if that%26#039;s your thing. Danelectro makes a few really cheap distortion pedals, if you can find them.

If you can play the guitar before you buy it, that%26#039;s the best. Try messing around with a few different guitars at a store, and see how your hand fits around them. Some will be more comfortable than others - you want to find a neck that works for you if at all possible within your price range!

Ask if you can have the guitar setup and intonated for free or for a discount, since you%26#039;re buying it from them (whomever %26quot;them%26quot; is). Setups are good - they put the strings at a good height, make sure it%26#039;s in tune, and is in tune up the neck.

Guitar packs aren%26#039;t the highest quality, but they%26#039;re a good place to start. Good luck!

Guitar Hero Three Help?

Is there a way other than Co-Op Career Mode to play back up guitar in Career mode? There is an X-Box achievement for it and I%26#039;m not quite sure how to complete all songs playing backup guitar/ bass.
Guitar Hero Three Help?
you can play back-up one song at a time in x-box live, but that won%26#039;t get you the achievement, because the achievement is to complete the co-op career as back up. sorry bout that.

Is the trapeze "great legendary maneuver" in Episode 26 from Kaleido Star physically possible in real life?

The characters are lifted several hundred feet in the air, swing on the trapeze to the extent that when they let go, their trajectory is straigh up towards each other... they meet in mid air by clasping one hand, spin in that position while freefalling, then use each other%26#039;s force to push back and catch the trapeze at the lowest point and return to the stand. Is this physically possible to do in real life? Here is the best video I could find of it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gy0RcydZ5sk They don%26#039;t show the entire swinging process, I believe the actual act begins about 2 or 3 minutes into the video. Any ideas?

How much is a reasonable pay rate when performing cover songs in bars on an Acoustic guitar?

I%26#039;ve recently started playing cover songs (acoustic versions) in a local tavern. I got this gig because a friend of mine does the booking at this bar now. I get paid $100 to go sit and perform cover songs while people drink. It%26#039;s gone over really well and I%26#039;ve gotten great responses from people and I like it a lot. I%26#039;m wanting to get into this on a much more frequent basis (currently I get one night a week at this one place). I live in a tourist trap city where there is a high demand for live entertainment like this, and I%26#039;m just wondering if any musicians/entrepreneurs with experience doing this could tell me what I should ask for as my rate. I%26#039;m not greedy or trying to price gauge but I do want to get paid all that I%26#039;m capable of earning doing this.
How much is a reasonable pay rate when performing cover songs in bars on an Acoustic guitar?
Actually, that sounds like a pretty good pay. Back when I was playing in the bars in Europe, I just played for the tips. Now, when I do play small room venues.. I just charge what the traffic will bear.. which is about $40 an hour, but I play both Guitar and keyboard so I can intermix them during the gig

Okay So I Need Help?

Okay, I want to act and dance really bad. I%26#039;ve been in several plays and musicals at my old high school, and now doing the same in college. So I have a feel for it all. My question is, how would I find an agent for dancing and/or acting?

Also, my friend wants to do the same, except he hasn%26#039;t had all of the experience I%26#039;ve had and I almost got him out of his shyness now (thanks God!) So what could he do to persue the same dream? I really want to help him out also.

Can some good fellow help me out ples? Thank ya!
Okay So I Need Help?
Expose yourself (not literally) by acting and dancing in any show or gig you can and just hope that somebody is out there scouting.

Go to fairs, call people in advertisements, ask your college for national/travel-involved opportunities, and, if you feel like you want to, advertise online.

Just be careful. Fame is hard to find, but following a dream should be performable. If you find something online or over the phone that appears too good to be true, it most likely is.

And hey, if you don%26#039;t make it big-time, you could always teach or help others. It%26#039;s just as rewarding!
Okay So I Need Help?
It depends on what area you want to be in and in what capacity you want to act/dance. Television? Movies? Broadway? Theatre? Los Angeles is a great place for TV commercials, hip hop videos etc. and movies. New York for theatre and broadway. Figure out what exactly you want to do, then go live in one of these cities. You can look online for auditions and agents. Check out answers4dancers.com It has a lot of good advice. You can also sign up at lacasting.com to get audition info emailed to you (there is a fee unless you have an agent who signs you up).

Want to buy a Guitar?

I am 15 years old and I want to learn how to play acoustic guitar. I learn very easily, like I learned how to play piano with just books. What type of guitar should I get? (brand, $100-$200) Is their anything that I should know before I buy one? Does anyone know if Costco guitars are any good?
Want to buy a Guitar?
DO NOT GET A COSTCO GUITAR! Check Craigslist or go to pawnshops, buy a decent used guitar.
Want to buy a Guitar?
Nothing from Costco. Especially not that First Act garbage.

Reply:fender is good i have one

yamahma make good begginer guitars that will last you a while

or maybe go to a used store and get like a really really good one that is used good luck!
Reply:Get a brand that knows how to make musical instruments. Brands like Yamaha, Fender, Ashton, Epiphone etc have cheap guitars for beginners and students (get a steel string acoustic; they are the most versatile ones). There%26#039;s nothing wrong with second hand if you know what to look for. The people at the music stores will be able to answer any of your questions and give you an idea of the guitars you can afford.
Reply:Get a Yamaha for $100. Forget Costco. You need a guitar that plays decent and the Yamaha is a good place ot start.

Do you guys know any good talent academy or schools in las vegas?

Self taught guitar what should i start with ??????

I am a beginer on guitar and would like to try to teach myself but i have no idea where to start. What sort of thing should i start with???? HELP
Self taught guitar what should i start with ??????
try to understand tabliture its simple really, just look on a site called understanding tabliture or learning tabliture for guitar secondly ask your self what a good song you like and get the tabliture for the song its all free if you are using it for personal studies. Playing the guitar is a hobbie and you have to practice, tapping your foot can give you timing, if you get good enough on the guitar you can have a jam session with a drummer its heaps of fun, if this don,t work buy some weed and bob marley c.ds and play seventh thret upwards jinkjink jinkjink....jinkjink jinkjink....
Self taught guitar what should i start with ??????
Borrow a book or buy a book about guitar for beginners. It will cover your basic chords and strumming. Then you can start looking for songs in www.ultimate-guitar.com with chords you know. If you don%26#039;t know one chord in the song, learn it and add it to your repertoire. And practise, practise, practise!
Reply:this site should help you.Go step by step through all the lessons:

http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitar...
Reply:start with learn 2 simple chords like

D major

and

E Minor

and pratise switching between them

once you get fast add in chords and so on
Reply:Start with learning how to play chords. Spend a lot of time learning how to play chords correctly! You can play tons of songs with just chords, and learning songs will give you the incentive to learn more. It%26#039;s important to feel like you%26#039;ve accomplished something, so I would suggest learning enough chords to play a song, then practice that song until you%26#039;ve got it down. Then add another chord or two, and learn another song. Repeat.

If you ever want to get serious about music, then learn how to read music. Tab is okay, but it%26#039;s not for the serious musician. Study some music theory, practice your scales, etc. One of the best things you can do for yourself is record yourself. It%26#039;s amazing how different you sound when an impartial mic is the judge!

Saul
Reply:FIRST... learn how to read REAL MUSIC... at your stage, it doesn%26#039;t take any more effort and you won%26#039;t have to get someone to transcribe music into TABS for you later... plus, with REAL MUSIC... you don%26#039;t have to guess at the rhythm or timing.
Reply:Condition your fingers, and at least take a few lessons to learn the basics. In the mean time.....

Keyboard Lessons?

I%26#039;m planning on taking keyboard lessons and I was wondering if you get to learn how to read notes and play different songs once the whole course is through?
Keyboard Lessons?
Absoulutely! My teacher got me through step my step and made it very easy to learn, it costed alot so i quit but now i can manage on my own through books!
Keyboard Lessons?
If you%26#039;re wise, you won%26#039;t give up lessons. Even if you go to lessons less frequently, like every two weeks or four weeks, it%26#039;s better than not taking lessons at all. Depending on what level you reached, you can actually start to go backwards if you don%26#039;t have a teacher.

Are you learning Suzuki method? Otherwise, your teacher should be showing you how to read notes already.
Reply:OH yes, you will be taught to read music from the first lesson!
Reply:You will be able to play anything actually. It all depends on how much time and effort you put it.

If you do your lessons well and are ahead of your schedule, than push yourself and start pickup my tunes by ear or by listening to CD. This will ehlp you in developing a good ear for music.

What does Jerome Dillon of the Nine Inch Nails use instead of a hihat on Just like you imagined?

On the Nine Inch Nails DVD release, %26quot;And all that could have been%26quot;, and specifically on the song just like you imagined (as well as in other songs), Jerome Dillon, the drummer, does not play the Hihats and rather plays the backbeat on this percussion instrument, I%26#039;ve never seen before. Its located to the right of the Ride Cymbal, and looks like two strips of plastic attached to each other. Does anyone know what it is called, and where I can get one?

What can be a good practice schedule for a high school student playing the violin?

I am 14 years old and in 3rd Year High School (Philippines). I don%26#039;t want to seem like I%26#039;m bragging or anything but I am an honor student so I have to study hard to maintain my grades. I usually study for 6 hours and maybe even more if there%26#039;s a lot of homework. I%26#039;m equally passionate though on practicing my violin and considering on being a professional someday. If there is a schedule that you can suggest, I would really appreciate it. :)
What can be a good practice schedule for a high school student playing the violin?
You will find that practising an instrument actually helps with the ordeal of studying. 6 hours homework a day sounds like a lot - have you tried to find %26quot;shortcuts%26quot; so that you can do the same amount of work but in less time?

I taught a boy who was studying piano at a very advanced level and he was able to fit all his practice into a one hour session every morning before school. That way, he didn%26#039;t have to worry about it for the rest of the day. He appeared on television and everything so he certainly knew his stuff. If your parents are willing to sit with you during your practice session (at least initially) in order to keep you on track, that can help. Remember, it%26#039;s not the amount, but the FREQUENCY, that matters.

Bass guittar picking hand help?

in trying to develop my technique i have recently adopted a method of playing wherein my right hand thumb stays just one string below the string im playing on, thus continually moving across the strings, while this technique allows me to play quickly, it also makes it feel as though i have no control over the bass bc the only thing truly supporting it is my strap, i was wondering what is the best technique for my right hand on bass?

Tips For A Future Colorguard Captain?

I%26#039;m just wondering what other people are thinking so it%26#039;d be a big help if you told me things you do and don%26#039;t like in a captain!

Thanks in advance!
Tips For A Future Colorguard Captain?
Be strict but still be nice. when I was low brass section leader, I would expect my section to know the basic%26#039;s and to preform them to the best of their abilities. If they did a good job then I might have them do it again and then they%26#039;d get a break.

I think what annoyed me about the flags at my school was they spent way too much time worry about costumes than the routine. Make little contests of who can know that first 16 counts of a routine and give little prizes. Explain to your guard that your hear to help them and if they need help you can and will help them to the best of your abilities. If the drum major gives your section grief that they don%26#039;t deserve, stick up for your section. Thats what i did last year for my section, and they respected me so much

The biggest adivce be fair to everyone, even to the person who gives you a hard time
Tips For A Future Colorguard Captain?
I%26#039;m not in colorguard (I play trumpet), but I think I can still help a little.

Make sure that everyone at least tries to get along. That%26#039;s one problem that our colorguard team had.

Help those who aren%26#039;t really getting it. If they%26#039;re having trouble with a certain part of the routine, take them aside and help them through it. It will make you look friendly and helpful.

Be strict, but not mean.
Reply:Don%26#039;t contradict yourself. If you tell your team to set and then you start talking or something, that%26#039;s such a bad example and your team will become upset with you. Look at the other captains you%26#039;ve had. Don%26#039;t repeat their mistakes. Don%26#039;t be all bossy. Be nice, but confident and sure of yourself when you tell your team to do something. I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ll be fine, especially if you have realized the mistakes of past captains! Good luck and HAVE FUN! That%26#039;s a great accomplishment. Congratulations!

Beginning guitar lessons?

What is a good age for my kids to start guitar lessons? How much can I expect to pay in Michigan for lessons?
Beginning guitar lessons?
Depends on your kids. If you think they%26#039;re old enough to sit still and learn an instrument, then they%26#039;re old enough to start guitar lessons. As for the price, I don%26#039;t live in Michigan [nowhere near, in fact] so I can%26#039;t help you there.
Beginning guitar lessons?
7 would be great...
Reply:it doesn%26#039;t matter how old they are,

but they have to like it, or they wont fallow through on it

i%26#039;d say age 7 if you want them to be pretty good

Although i know a 14 year old who started when he was 12 and he is a great guitarist now,

your kids just be passionate,

and lessons should be about 15 dollars for half an hour
Reply:As soon as they show sufficient interest. You can get half size and quarter size guitars, so instrument size is not the issue. the most important thing is that they need to enjoy it
Reply:as soon as he can appreciate guitar-styled music. about 100 dollars a month is what im paying for my lessons

How can I improve my voice?

When I was 10 I used to sing in a choir, and my voice was just wonderfull.

But at one give moment, my voice was blocked and I can%26#039;t cry for a long distance or to SING at a high voice.

Therefore, I would want to know IS THERE SOME SPECIAL MEDECINES to make my voice better?

Or do I have to sing everyday like other people say? Please answer to my question and I hope to listen something from you.

I would at that occasion want to be a singer, but I have one problem only, and that is my voice. I can compose songs of course, but I don%26#039;t need someone else to sing for me. I want to sing using my voice. What can I do in that situation?
How can I improve my voice?
My friend swears by %26quot;Singing Success%26quot; by Brett Manning.

It is expensive though... but check it out, listen to the testimonials: www.singingsuccess.com
How can I improve my voice?
if you have a piano at home try to match pitches with the notes go to a private music studio and get private lessons for under $75
Reply:I would reccomend voice lessons, i take them and they are a lot of fun! I have also improved my voice and i%26#039;m able to sing things that i wouldnt have ever imagined singing in my life. If you can, take them

sing as much as you can to try and get your voice back, sometimes youre just a little rusty and it takes a while to get it into great condition again.

What is intrument should i play?

i really want to play another brass instrument. i play the trumpet and i own one too. what would be the best instument to play or the cheapest one to buy?

What is intrument should i play?
Ufoniums (Sorry About the Spelling!) Are Always Great; not that Many People Play it - Good Placements In orchestras!

Though Trombone Is Great Fun.

Perhaps You Could Try That, It%26#039;s Not Too Expensive And Its Pretty Easy To Pick Up!

Hope That Helps!

:]
Reply:baritone/euphonium is an easy, logical choice, you can even get the music in treble clef so you use the same fingerings as trumpet!!!
Reply:Hi John :) You ask what instrument you should play... but the answer really only rests with you. What instrument do you love the sound of? What instrument do you envy other good players play? You will find that those things are what will make you want to explore the instrument, practice and work hard to get good at it. If you already play the trumpet, you have all you need to branch out to another brass horn. If it were me... I love the french horn. Good luck and go for it.
Reply:What about the tuba? That way, you could experience the bottom end of the ensemble - it%26#039;s grand being down there, and providing the foundation of the music - it%26#039;s a nice change from being in the %26quot;spotlight,%26quot; as you tend to be when playing trumpet!

I%26#039;ve played both flute and bassoon - it%26#039;s certainly fun experiencing both ends of the musical spectrum!
Reply:Choice of instrument has to be a personal choice- no one can choose for you. That being said, I would suggest the tuba. There are much more opportunities playing tuba because good tuba players are a lot rarer than trumpets (or drummers...) That gives you a little less competition and a little less pressure (specifically in chair placement, honor bands, etc.) Also, you can play a school tuba, which means you only have to pay for your mouthpiece and possibly a few other odds and ends.

Help tuning guitar?

im trying to learn guitar but i dont have a tuning fork, could i use a xylophone/bells to tune my guitar?
Help tuning guitar?
Theoretically, yes, if they are precisely in tune (I can%26#039;t imagine they%26#039;d be anything else, but...). I don%26#039;t know anyone who%26#039;s ever done it, though.

I would strongly advise you to buy an electronic tuner, instead. I prefer Korg, you can get them for 20-30$, depending on which model you buy. Chromatic tuners are better if you want to tune down or do alternate tuning stuff, but you have to know what notes to tune to.

Seriously... for 20$, it%26#039;s an investment that really pays for itself. You can%26#039;t carry a xylophone around with you, but you can carry a tuner everywhere!

Saul

yeah get a tuner, and match each string to the tuner. for standrad. the thickest to thinnest stringss should read EADGBe. and make sure the tuner is chromatic so you can try alternate tunigs as you get more experienced.

Know any drum songs for beginners?

I know this question has probably been asked a few times but I want as many answers as I can get. I just got a drum set a couple days ago. I like rock music mainly like older rock such as Floyd, Zeppelin, Rush, etc. You can suggest easy (easy to learn songs for a beginner) songs as well as just generally good songs for drums (doesn%26#039;t matter the difficulty, Ex. Run to the Hills-Iron Maiden). Thanks!
Know any drum songs for beginners?
I started off drumming to Judas Priest song at 16...

but since you asked for drum songs for beginners.

I%26#039;ll say Rolling Stones, %26amp; Beatles songs. Hope this helps...
Know any drum songs for beginners?
Look on %26quot;ultimateguitar.com%26quot; (yes I know...) for some drum tabs. You can just print a whole load of songs you know (that%26#039;s always easier) and just try them out.

I started on Yellow by Coldplay, but if that%26#039;s not really your style then some songs by the Police are also good.
Reply:dont learn drum tabs. its a crip to a drummer. especially if you want to be in a band. listen to your favorite songs and try to find out the drum parts by ear. you should be able to recognize what snare bass and hi hats sound like. if you cant. change instruemnts
Reply:Anything by AC/DC is great for a new drummer. Learning how to play a solid back beat is essential before trying the fancy stuff.

Why did you choose to play viola?

What made you choose viola over other instruments, if applicable? Was it the sound, the rarity of violists, the lack of E strings or large instruments to carry around?
Why did you choose to play viola?
I picked the viola because since there are less of those, there is a better chance of becoming first chair (like i did=]) and to my opinion the violin is too squeaky for me and the cello is just too low and the fingering is hard. I say the viola is perfect.

=]
Why did you choose to play viola?
Orchestras Are Always Looking For New Viola Players.

They Have A Deeper, Richer Sound Which Audiences Prefer.

You have To Play Harder To Get A Louder Sound Out Of It.

People Are More In Awe Of Viola Players.

Out Of Them I Prefer The Viola.

Always A Hit.

And A talking Point, People Are Always Like Isn%26#039;t A Viola A Violin And You Can Seem Clever.

What are powerchord fingerings? (guitar)?

Can someone explain to me what powerchord fingerings are?

I read that it is %26quot;a fingering which can play ANY chord, depending on which frets you start on - usually used by electric guitarists%26quot; but that definition doesn%26#039;t seem clear to me.
What are powerchord fingerings? (guitar)?
powerchords are usually 3 sometimes 2 strings by placing your index finger 1st string 1st fret and ring finger 2nd %26amp;3rd strings 3rd fret or the same fingering pattern anywhere on the fretboard
What are powerchord fingerings? (guitar)?
These are basic %26quot;Power chords%26quot; or %26quot;5th chords%26quot;.....they are both the same thing. These are mostly used in Rock, Punk %26amp; Metal

Reply:Some boring theory first.. If you know your scales, this next part will be stupid. Here%26#039;s an example of an E scale.

E-F#-G#-A-B-C#-D#

Chords are built by a triad that consists of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th note in the scale (check for yourself! when you hold a regular E chord, you%26#039;ll notice that all the notes you%26#039;re holding down will be E, G#, or B). A power chord is essentially the same chord without the 3rd (in this case, the G#).

So an E power chord would be

EADGBe

079900 (E,E,B,E,B,E)

Remember that finger position. The next few positions aren%26#039;t technically 100% correct, but if you%26#039;re playing a song in the key of E, you can cheat pretty easily. Just move that position up and down the fret to other chords in the key (B, C#m, A) and just make sure the top string is the bass note.

i.e.

A you can play as a regular A2

A- X02200

B- X24400

C#m- X46600 (or X46650)

E- 079900

You can move that finger position up and down the fret and make it sound decent with just about any major chord you%26#039;re looking for. Just make sure you hit your bass note and move your other two fingers to go along with it in the finger formation.

Hope this wasn%26#039;t too confusing.. Good luck!

Hi Jessica

Riffs and runs are usually for guitar players and solo instruments like the Wind and pianos as well.

Singers usually have the term %26#039;Phrasing%26#039; which involved the tone and the way you sing the notes.

Im 13 and i want to start playing the acoustic guitar, what is the best kind thats a reasonable price?

Guitars aren%26#039;t for women.
Im 13 and i want to start playing the acoustic guitar, what is the best kind thats a reasonable price?
well i wouldnt get a cheap one i would save up money and buy a gibson or something more name brand like that because they sound better and last longer
Im 13 and i want to start playing the acoustic guitar, what is the best kind thats a reasonable price?
If you are just starting out, you may want to get an inexpensive guitar (because you may not like it or have time later on). If later on you really want to pursue it then you can always buy a better one. But for starters you want a guitar that is not complicated. I recommend an acoustic or dual acoustic electric like an Ovation later on. to start I wouldn%26#039;t pay more than $150. If you don%26#039;t have much money you can try perusing in thrift stores, pawn shops, or Guitar Center where they have a used instrument section. Some of their new guitars are inexpensive and come with a case, strap, and pick. Sometimes they%26#039;ll even include an amp when they are on sale. There is also Daisy Rock Girl Guitars sells guitars generally for females who tend to be smaller than men. The guitars have slim neck lines, are lighter, and are shaped better for women. They have electric %26amp; acoustic and range anywhere from $150 -500+.
Reply:as for the guy who said guitars aren%26#039;t for women, forget him, chick musicians are always hot, any ways. you should probably start off with an epiphone, it%26#039;s like a cheap version of gibson and they are actually good quality. expect to pay about 150 to 200 dollars for one though. but this money would be well spent, since you can get an acoustic/electric, which is a good thing. epiphones last a long time too. so don%26#039;t get discouraged by playing either, it can take about 1 to 2 years to get good, but your epiphone should last you that long. so good luck!
Reply:guitars are for women i am a woman and i play the guitar very well

my first guitar i bought on eBay for 5$

good luck and don%26#039;t listen to people who tell you that you cant succeed
Reply:Yamaha has good cheap ones

But you need to know if you want a nylon or steel string. I would suggest a steel stringer.

Takamine is the best in MY opinion, I own TWO and one you can buy for about 1000 US bucks and the other about 1100 bucks if you shop right. They are quality production guitars.

but if you just sing then try some of the above options =)
Reply:Trick question. Do you want to be an music artist or a musician. Artists just take an idea and add words, and do what the current listeners want. Composers invent, and make their own things, then get gradatude for the years after..

Anyway, if you don%26#039;t play any instruments you%26#039;ll need a cd of recordings and most likely the sheet music to be reviewed.. Its hard to do, unless someone else notices you first.

I%26#039;d spread your music across youtube or other internet places..

www.8notes.com too.
Reply:1. Make sure you have enough money saved because it is going to be expensive to make a CD a full. I guarantee you that. You will spend anywhere $500 to $1,000 to make your CD demo. A full album will cost you much more because of recording, editing, mixing and Mastering time, Graphics

(depends on who you use to do your album cover for you) , Copyrights ( around $50), Bar Codes ( $75),

also if you play intsruments or not...or whether you planning on using other musicians to play the music for you on your album too. You also can use MIDI, Programmers and Sequencers too to produce your music too if you know how to do that stuff. Those factors all play a big part of your Recording Budget...

2. Make your Myspace page....and include as many LIVE pix of you performing at your gigs or wherever you have performed already so far. It doesn%26#039;t matter if it%26#039;s lil Coffee shop gig....a gig is still a gig. Also, upload your Mp3 son there too if you have them. I%26#039;ve performed 7 Drum Contests from 1999 to 2007 in the past and THAT was my start into my Solo Artist career.

4. Even if you have CD demos already...pass them out too to people so they get an idea of what your sound like and also to see if they like your music or not. This is how you promote your music and get the ball rolling. By %26quot;Word of mouth%26quot;

5. Pass out flyers protming your music, do some local gigs if you can too while you%26#039;re at it. I don%26#039;t have a Record Label, or a Manager so I%26#039;m in control of of every single aspect of my Solo Career....right down to the Prodcuting, the CD covers, the choice of songs, the lyrics, the business and legal aspect of it, the marketing, the promotions, the passing out of flyers at local music stores....this is what I do on a weekly basis to promote my Solo Career. I just had some more old Solo Cd covers made last week to so I pass out to more free Solo Cd demos to people before I finish producing my new album in next month. Trust me...being a Solo Artist is hard than it looks and you better be prepared to work your butt off if you want to succeed as a Solo Artist. I%26#039;ve been doing this since 2004 and now I%26#039;m finally making some real progress in my Solo Career because of the comments people have made on my CD demos....IF they would have said my music sucked....I would have surely quit doing this years ago....But they didn%26#039;t so I keep on marching ahead because I know I beleive in the music...

6. Learn from your mistakes and try not to repear your mistake because it will get epensive and counterproductive so you%26#039;ve got to learn fast from your every single move you make in your Solo Artist career. Keep in mind who you can trust and who you can%26#039;t trust in your Solo Career. There a lot of flakes %26amp; promise breakers in the Music Biz and you want to stay away from them.

7. You are responsible for your own Solo Career....

not someone else so keep that fact in mind. IF something didn%26#039;t work right or a situation didn%26#039;t come thorugh....you need to find out what went wrong and correct the problem ASAP.

If you have hire a Manager to help you out...that%26#039;s lot easier on yur burden....bear in mind... they are going to take about 10% to 15% percent of your total earnings if you deice eot hire a Manager to manage your Solo Career.

well yes of course it%26#039;s a good choice.

oh btw.

you are coool for playing the flute :)
Reply:you don%26#039;t really %26#039;switch%26#039; to piccolo. you just play it additionally.

it requires a tighter embouchure, which makes your flute tone sound pinched. it takes a while to get used to even though the fingerings are the same. and intonation is more difficult to manage for the piccolo.

check www.fluteworld.com

they will send you ones to try out, and if you don%26#039;t want it you can send it back and get another.

good luck!
Reply:1. Piccolo is a loud instrument and its harder to play compared to play the flute. You have get used to the small keys, and the way to play it.

Its also a lot harderto keep in tune

I use a Emerson, which my school just bought a year ago, since I go to honor bands i pretty much keep the piccolo with me. Its a nice one
Reply:Piccolo is a lot of fun, especially in marching band! And like you%26#039;re probably thinking, it%26#039;s very light and easy to carry around :) It is a tough instrument, though. You should make sure to practice it just like you practice your flute. Scales, long tones, and etudes are key. Make sure not to tighten your lips/embouchure much. This is a common mistake that leads to a tight sound and little to no flexibility in dynamics or tone colors.

You could probably get a decent, used Gemeinhardt for a few $100. I would recommend the 4PMH if you are thinking of marching it. It has a plastic body and a silver head, so it is safe (well, safer) to take it outside. I don%26#039;t particularly like the all-silver piccolos; they sound too shrill. Second best to the 4PMH would be an all-plastic picc, in my opinion.

Good luck! :)

How do you play an Em7 on guitar?

I am learning the song realize by colbie caillat (capo on the sixth fret) and the chord Em7 has an %26quot;x%26quot; on the A and B strings and an %26quot;o%26quot; on the D string, and nothing on E G and e strings. How do you play an Em7 on guitar?
i%26#039;m guessing that you%26#039;re looking at the chord chart that comes up when you hover over the chord name. The x means to play that fret, the 0 means to play that string open.

If you look at the top of the tab, they have listed each of the chords. It says to play the Em7 like this - 020033. That would be the best way to do it.

Reply:Fenders make some good guitars, unfortunately, this is not one of them. This is an import from China or who knows where. I would recommend not buying from E-bay at least a guitar anyways. Try musiciansfriend or guitarcenter.

try to buy a Japanese or American made guitar if you can afford one, well worth the extra $.

Yamaha makes a fair guitar acoustic at a low price. But i always recommend Takamine if you can afford one.
Reply:any guitar is ok to start ou tiwht as long as it can do what you want. if you want to be a simple songwriter with basic open chorded music this is good. if you want to gig in big places, theres no pickup in this guitar so it wont work out. id reccomend getting an acoustic electric to start out with so if you want to jam withyour friends you can amplify it. aim me at nbafreak93 for good acoustin electric choices

This guitar is ok to start . But if you are a girl, you might want to put .010 light gauge on this to facilitate your playing.

It will require less effort for you to press the strings and obtain a decent sound.

My first guitar way back, was a $80 guitar and I learnt perfectly on it before switching to electric.
Reply:It%26#039;s always difficult to buy guitars sight unseen. You don%26#039;t know what the neck is like- is it straight, bowed, does the finger board feel consistent, are the frets properly dressed, etc? It%26#039;s generally safe to assume that buying a new high-end guitar from a reputable dealer (like Wild West Guitars or Musicians Friend) will be a decent experience. These places have return policies and since they sell nice instruments, the chances that they have defects are slight. Unfortunately this is not a high quality instrument. You%26#039;d do better to go to a local music store and play what they have in your price range. At least handle them and look closely at them to see if there are defects, if they weigh too much or a pleasing amount and learn how to sight down a neck that is strung in tune to pitch to see how the neck looks.
Reply:Its okay but you would be better off with one of those walmart wanna be guitar kits... Yamaha, Gibson, don%26#039;t get that one lol... try www.music123.com there are some pretty cheap ones there that are really good.

In the Rockstar Mayhem tour, what time do Machine Head, Dragonforce, Mastodon, and Black Tide hit the stage?

It%26#039;s my son%26#039;s first metal festival and since they%26#039;ve got three stages, we%26#039;re trying to figure out whether he%26#039;ll be able to see his four favorite bands or if the timings will overlap. I%26#039;m hoping someone has seen some of the early dates of the tour and might have an idea of timings. thanks!
